Organizing Parking Garage Workers With UNITE HERE Local 27

2004

During the spring and summer of 2004, DC JWJ organized community support for parking workers in downtown office buildings seeking to form a union with UNITE HERE Local 27. DC JWJ mobilized our activist base to support regular worker-led picket lines and leafleting actions in front of parking garages.

DC JWJ also worked to educate and engage tenants of the buildings where the garages were located as well as clergy and other community leaders in supporting workers through public actions as well as through tenant meetings, letters and postcards from the religious community to property management companies, and delegations of clergy and tenants to meet with both the parking companies and the property management companies.
